In the process industry, raw materials are transformed into an end product. Our process safety department ensures this transformation is carried out safely. We design and assess the entire process flow (based on a PFD) and map out different risk scenarios. We pull out all the stops to minimise risk. Bumps in the road? We go straight across them (with a well-functioning airbag and shock absorbers).

Process safety applications

Prevention is better than cure. This is why the process safety department takes well thought-out, smart and automated safety measures. And because our process safety experts love processes so much, their approach to this is very process based. We kick off with Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP) and then perform a Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA). You can read briefly what we do here.

Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP)

Where are the potential risks? What can go wrong? We have always been taught to look at the positives in life. But knowing where possible problems lie is a strength. Only then can you come up with a solution. This is exactly what our process safety experts do and how safety can be assured.

We then determine whether the safety measures we have taken are sufficient. We do this using a Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA).

The mission of our process safety department is to continuously optimise process safety. As a result, we can prevent physical, financial and environmental damage, or at least minimise it as much as possible. This is incredibly important, because this will make the world just that little bit more beautiful. We believe in a 100% reliable (chemical) process, and ensure that all measuring instruments always show us the most reliable information.

Our approach

Rising Sun. Birds on the horizon. Well, the smell of industry and a good cup of coffee. It’s such good fun to work on a great project with our customer from the very beginning. We love to be involved in the entire circle of life of an installation. It all starts with a good concept. Our process engineers start with the basic engineering. The installation is mapped out globally in the COMOS engineering platform. The detailed engineering where we dot the i’s and cross the t’s then follows. Our process safety expertise comes into play during this phase. In the final phase, we do everything in our power to design the maintenance of the installation as well as possible. Systems and techniques

Our process engineering and process safety departments use two software programs day in, day out:

  • COMOS Using this software, we can manage the total lifecycle of the installation, the circle of life, from concept to maintenance.
  • aeShield When the entire installation has been designed at a detailed level, it is time to introduce the necessary safety measures in the process. The process safety department designs this in the aeShield software program.
